Qopla was founded by restaurant owners in 2018 with a simple goal: help restaurants run smoother and smarter. Today, more than 2,000 restaurants rely on Qopla for table ordering, self-service kiosks, and online ordering.

We run business-critical systems used daily in real restaurant environments. Reliability, scalability, and thoughtful system design are essential.

The Mission

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Developer to help us design, build, and evolve the core backend systems that power Qopla’s platform.

This role is for someone who enjoys building robust, long-lived systems that handle real-world complexity — integrations, throughput, fault tolerance, and operational stability.

What You’ll Build

Examples of the kind of problems you’ll work on:

• Designing and evolving scalable backend services for ordering, payments, integrations, and analytics

• Working with Kafka for asynchronous processing and system decoupling, where it adds real value

• Designing APIs and data models that scale with the platform

• Improving performance, stability, and observability across services

• Building and operating services on AWS, balancing cost, scalability, and resilience

• Contributing to CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows

Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services with a strong focus on reliability, scalability, and maintainability

• Make pragmatic system design decisions and technical trade-offs

• Build and maintain services primarily in Java and Node.js

• Collaborate with product and engineering to ship features end-to-end

• Continuously improve testing, monitoring, and deployment practices

What We’re Looking For

• Strong experience as a Senior Backend Developer or similar role

• Solid production experience with Java and Node.js

• Experience designing and running distributed backend systems

• Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar messaging tools

• Experience operating services on AWS

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment practices
